Our Story

Austin Wildcats Basketball was originally established in 1999 as a non-profit organization dedicated to youth basketball training and character building. After a pause in activity following COVID, the program was reestablished as ATX Wildcats in 2026 with a renewed focus and purpose.

That return was driven by a clear need: teaching—and a place for kids to come practice, learn, and develop before being pushed into tournament play too early.

Why We Came Back

Too often, we saw kids being shown skills—but not truly being taught. Players were left to struggle through drills without guidance, without adjustments, and without understanding why things worked. Fundamentals were either rushed or overlooked entirely.

We knew there had to be a better way.

Too often, kids are pushed into nonstop games and tournaments before they've had a chance to fall in love with the sport. By age 10 or 11, many want to quit—not because they don't enjoy basketball, but because they've been burned out by pressure and over-scheduling.

A Program Built on Purpose

The ATX Wildcats you see today is a continuation of the original Wildcats program, built on the same foundation, with a renewed focus on how the game should be taught.

At ATX Wildcats, we believe basketball should be a lifelong love. We slow things down, focus on fundamentals, and give kids the space to grow, learn, and enjoy the game. Our goal isn't just to build great players—it's to build kids who want to keep playing, at the park, with friends, and on teams for years to come.

More Than Skills

Our program is designed to teach not just how to play basketball, but why the skills matter. By focusing on footwork, ball-handling, passing, shooting form, and defense—along with basketball IQ and life skills—we prepare players for more than a season.

Basketball is taught here. Build your basketball IQ.

Our Mission

The ATX Wildcats teach fundamental basketball skills, basketball knowledge, and life skills to youth players ages 6–11. We're a practice-focused program — one that prepares kids for a lifetime of loving the game, not for next weekend's tournament.
